Intentional Interior Design: Creating a Home That Supports Your Life

Does Your Home Feel “Off”? You’re Not Alone

If you’ve ever walked into your home and thought, “Why doesn’t this feel quite right?” — you’re not alone.

Many of my clients come to me with that exact feeling. They can’t quite explain what’s wrong.
They’ve chosen colors they love, picked out furniture from their favorite stores, and even added décor that speaks to them, but when they step back and look at the space as a whole, something still feels off.

They may find themselves avoiding certain rooms or never feeling truly relaxed at home…without knowing why.

What Is Intentional Design — And Why It Matters

How many hours have you spent scrolling through Instagram or Pinterest, admiring beautifully curated homes and wondering, “Why does their space feel so soft, calm, and happy, and mine doesn’t?”

Some of my clients have even worked with decorators or used virtual design templates that looked great in photos, but their home still didn’t feel like them.

That’s where intentional design comes in. Whether you’re building from scratch or remodeling a single room, the first step is understanding your true needs. We look at how each space is used, how your family interacts with it, and most importantly, how you want to feel in that space.

From there, we can create a design that’s not just beautiful, but supportive. A home that works with your life, not against it.

Real-Life Impact: A Color Story

One of my recent clients had just repainted her entire home based on suggestions from her painter and real estate agent.

Their advice wasn’t wrong, but it was meant for staging and selling, not for living.

The color chosen was a bluish-grey.
Neutral and modern?
Yes. But in a large room where she spent most of her day, that color began to wear her down.

Grey tones, especially cooler ones, can feel heavy or even a bit sad when they dominate a space, especially when not balanced with warmth or texture.

This particular room had a beautiful view of a lake, and yet she didn’t want to spend time there. It held the sofa, the TV, and even opened into the kitchen, it should’ve been the heart of the home. But it felt off.

Her bedroom had a similar issue, painted in a mid-tone green with yellow undertones that were anything but calming.

We made a few key changes:

• Introduced soft, layered blue tones to the bedroom

• Added a textured wallpaper in the living space

• Replaced heavy furniture with more balanced, intentional pieces

The result?

She finally wanted to spend time in her home again. It felt like her space, peaceful, warm, and aligned with her life.
A bright, inviting living room featuring a light grey sofa with decorative pillows, a round wooden coffee table, and a small vase with flowers. A tall houseplant adds greenery, and framed artwork is displayed on the walls, enhancing the cozy aesthetic.

Designing a Life That Lights You Up

This month(May 2025), I’ll be speaking at the North Shore Conference for Women about building a life that truly lights you up.

I’ll be sharing a bit of my story, and how my own journey, full of pivots and emotional growth, led me to this work. Some know me as a “well-being interior designer,” and that’s because I design spaces with your mental clarity, connection, and emotional support in mind.

I’m also honored to have received the Best Interior Designer 2025 award from the Boston Business Women group, recognition that means so much because of the care I put into every project.
